Obstetrics, Women's Health

Lori Link, is a Certified Nurse Midwife, who obtained her Masters of Nursing and Certified Nurse-Midwifery at UTMB Galveston Texas. Lori is associated with the American College of Nurse Midwifery, Spinning Babies, and Breastfeeding Support groups. In nursing school, Lori found her home in the Labor and Delivery unit and in out of hospital births with Certified Nurse-Midwives. She gained experience as an L&D nurse and then attended nurse-midwifery school. After 19 years of managing her own private midwifery practice, attending low risk births in the home or birthing center in Southwest Missouri, Lori was recruited to develop, direct, and maintain a Nurse-Midwifery Service providing high touch midwifery services in a Missouri hospital for low risk birthing mothers and babies. The Midwifery Service grew to four Certified Nurse Midwifes providing low intervention birthing, a full midwifery clinic for prenatal, postpartum, well woman and breastfeeding services, home visit support services, and a hospitalist midwifery service to assist the OB/GYN practices. Lori enjoys providing woman/family centered care, honoring the normal natural strengths and processes of birth, and bringing this knowledge and experience of “what women want” to the hospitals to empower health care facilities in their quest to provide low intervention, mother/baby centered care to birthing families in the community.

What Brought you to Plumas District Hospital?

"Listening to Women” is the hallmark of midwifery and Plumas District Hospital is “listening to their community” in wanting to provide Midwifery and OB services. The FPOB physicians are all supportive of the midwifery model. The hospital focuses on patient centered care and is small enough to tailor care to the family and allow both physicians and midwives to spend the time required for providing personalized care. The people here are so friendly, the country and town are BEAUTIFUL!!

Lori enjoys playing both classical violin and bluegrass fiddle, cooking and consuming organic and gourmet food, studying/using herbs and natural remedies and furnishing her home with simple and functional antiques and handmade quilts. She also loves travel and exploring other cultures. She has backpacked around Europe with her daughter and explored Egypt, Uruguay and Peru with friends. She enjoys traveling in the U.S., playing music and finding gourmet restaurants with her wonderful, mandolin playing husband of 42 yrs.
